Lead a financial turnaround, stabilise the finance function, improve reporting accuracy, and build robust forecasting and controls.
Job duties
- Conduct a full diagnostic review of financial processes, systems, and reporting, followed by cleanup of historic accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and compliance gaps.
- Introduce robust month-end close procedures, strengthened controls, and improved statutory and accounting compliance.
- Identify cash pressures, margin weaknesses, and operational inefficiencies, delivering a short-term financial stabilisation plan.
- Provide clear financial insight to leadership to support rapid decision-making and performance improvement.
- Deliver accurate monthly management accounts by day 5, supported by high-quality Board dashboards and KPI reporting.
- Strengthen analysis across revenue, margins, overheads, cash flow, and manufacturing profitability, including cost centre reporting and throughput impact.
- Build robust forecasting models (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow), rolling forecasts, scenario modelling, and an improved annual budget.
- Implement weekly cash flow forecasting, improve working capital discipline, and review credit control, supplier terms, and inventory management.
- Enhance team structure, accountability, and capability, working closely with senior leadership and hiring/upskilling to ensure continuity.
- Improve finance systems, internal controls, and documentation, ensuring a clean handover with fully embedded processes and reporting templates.
Looking for
- Proven Finance Director or Senior Finance Leader with interim/turnaround experience.
- A track record of delivering rapid improvements in SME or mid-sized organisations.
- Strong background in financial reporting, management accounts, and forecasting.
- Experience cleaning up balance sheets, implementing controls, and improving systems.
- Comfortable operating hands-on in fast-paced or distressed environments.
- Experience in manufacturing
We are looking for someone to either come in as employed for 4 or 5 days a week at circa £100,000 (FTE) per annum for an initial 6-month fixed term contract OR on a self-employed basis for 3 – 5 days a week at a competitive day rate for around 6 months.
This is a hands-on role that requires for you to be in the office as much as possible at the start with the option to do some work from home days once embedded in. Typical office hours are 8am – 5pm but flexibility will be given if required.
